a short screenplay synopsis

Bound by duty, Deputy Devin Myles grapples with the aftermath of a routine traffic stop gone horribly wrong, thrusting him into a haunting psychological journey, where his ethical boundaries are pushed to their limits.

Synopsis:

Devin Myles, a local officer with ambitious career goals, faces a life-altering event when he tragically kills Tiffany Williams, an honor student. The incident gains national attention, leading to Devin’s suspension from the police department. Six months later, Devin attempts to find solace, but his tranquility is shattered when he discovers that he is being indicted by a grand jury.

In a moment of vulnerability, Devin contemplates breaking his five-year sobriety and considers buying a bottle of whiskey. However, news of the indictment in the liquor store pushes him to leave in frustration. Outside, he encounters two men who attack him, leaving him battered and bruised. After the confrontation, Devin retreats to his car, feeling haunted by Tiffany’s.

Haunted by guilt and Tiffany’s spirit, Devin seeks refuge at home. There, the presence of Tiffany’s spirit intensifies, accusing him of being a murderer. The television mysteriously turns on, rapidly displaying images of Black people murdered by police, stopping on a cryptic picture of Devin and Tiffany side by side. Further, confronting him with the reality of his actions. Despite initially hiding behind the defense of “Lawful Order,” Devin is eventually forced to confront the truth.

In the depths of despair, Devin is visited by his Baba who arrives just in time to provide much needed support.  Baba’s presence becomes a catalyst for Devin’s journey toward redemption. However, Ernell Williams, Tiffany’s grieving mother, ultimately influences Devin’s path. Her impassioned speech compels Devin to face the consequences of his actions.

As Devin grapples with his guilt and accountability and with Ernell’s words echoing in his mind. He embarks on a difficult journey, seeking a path to redemption and closure.
